Cresco Park

The District operates a camping ground at the corner of Pound Bend Road and Gallatlys Lane Warrandyte.

It is 5ha of bushland on the Yarra River. It is ideal for day outings, bush activities, water activities and camping.

Cresco Park was the Kew District campsite; Cresco is on coat of arms of the old City of Kew sign prior to amalgamation with Hawthorn and Camberwell in 1994.

Overview 

Facilities include a six-bed bunkhouse with kitchenette, and the John Pennington shelter with fireplace and toilet block, lots of great spots to camp and the District water activities centre.

It is suitable for all sections – and there is no charge for Boroondara scout groups. 

Hire charges apply for Private hires or other scout groups outside the district.

(John Pennington was the DC of Kew District for many years, and the shelter was named in memory of him.)

Facilities
The John Pennington Shelter
Located at the centre of Cresco Park, the John Pennington Shelter includes: 

  • Large open area with built in bench seating and a large open fireplace.
  • A food preparation bench and sink.
  • Toilets - Male / Disabled & Female (no showers).
  • Tank water is not recommended for drinking, please bring your own drinking water.
  • Mains supply power and lighting.
  • Lockable cupboard with electric urn, brooms, hoses, fire extinguisher, handles for the tap over the sink and campers tap outside the male toilet, buckets, BBQ (but no gas bottle).
  • No consumables provided including: toilet paper, soap, detergent, dish cloths, garbage bags.
  • Groups need to supply their own consumables and then take items home.

The Bunkhouse
Located at the entrance of Cresco Park our bunkhouse includes: 

  • Two x triple bunks with spring mattresses (linen, blankets and pillows are not supplied).
  • Kitchenette comprising – sink, bench, shelving, fridge, microwave, toaster, cutlery and crockery for six (no tea-towels). 
  • Small carpeted multi-use area with table, bench seats, lounge and electric fan heater.
  • Mains supply power and lighting.
  • Tank water is not recommended for drinking, please bring your own drinking water.
  • No Consumables – including toilet paper, detergent, mops, dishcloths, paper towels, garbage bags.
  • Groups need to supply their own consumables and then take items home.
  • Fire extinguisher.
  • BBQ, no gas bottle supplied.

Campsites 

  • Approximately 10 campsites in all, in two main areas.
  • Campsites adjoining the 1st turntable – especially suitable for patrol or troop camping or for cubs under canvas. 
  • It is close to the toilets.  
  • Tank water from tap outside the male toilets.  
  • Open fires only permitted in the fire drums, no fire drums are kept on site.
  • Groups are welcome to supply their own fire drums for use at Cresco.
  • Campsites adjoining the lower turntable – especially suitable for troop camping or those undertaking water activities.  
  • Tank water from tap outside the water activities centre (not recommended for drinking).
